Be Creative, Not Obnoxious

Writing rules are my friend. They are also my enemy. So in slightly outdated slang speak, that makes them my …

Today is a fantastic day! The sun is shining. The temps are warming. My hibiscus is in full bloom. AND…I have a new blog post: Breaking the Shelfie Optic.
I’m traveling back to 2002 for #FlashbackFriday and one of my favorite places in the continental U.S.—the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast of North Carolina. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune in the early 2000s, which gave me the opportunity to tour and fall in love with the area. My two oldest kiddos and I (my youngest wouldn’t come along until the following year) took a weekend-long trip the spring before we moved back to Texas. We started at Kitty Hawk and worked our way down the Outer Banks to Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, and finally down to Ocracoke, where we caught the last ferry of the day (just barely!) back to the mainland. These photos on the ferry are some of my favorites of Trace and Kylie, and Kylie took a flattering shot of her mama, in return. 😊
Today seemed like a good day to go all black (or nearly all black) and low-key in my #WorkwearWednesday choice. But you know what it means when the MIB (or WIB, as is the case) show up, don’t you? There are sure to be aliens around. But it’s all good, because you see…I’ve got an official MIB neuralyzer, which I swear is totally not just a light-tipped pen. Just tell me what you want to forget, and I’ll take care of it. This past winter? Done. All of 2020? Gone. Just this IG post? I don’t blame you.
So it’s not summer yet. It’s not even spring proper. But I saw 60 on the forecast today, and that’s good enough for me! For today’s #WorkwearWednesday I pulled one of my preppy spring/summer ensembles out of the closet and dressed with no regrets. Okay, that’s not true…I regret for your sakes that I don’t have pantyhose to cover those deathly pale legs, but you’re getting hair, makeup and even jewelry, so don’t judge me.
They say, “Dress for the job you want.”  But, can we also dress for the SEASON we want?  As much as I appreciate sparkling snow-covered landscapes, I’m a spring girl, through and through. I need sunshine. I need green. I need flowers and bees and gentle warm rain. And so, to that end, I pulled one of my favorite ensembles out of my closet, one I think evokes a blooming spring day. If I were a flower, what kind do you think I would I be?
Today on the Blog: I get a bit mushy and sentimental with a trip back to eighth grade, in recognition of Valentine's Day this Sunday. Sometimes, the most valuable gift isn't jewelry. It's a gesture. Link to the post is in my bio!
